West Michigan Roundup, Saturday 3/6/21
Another saturday during this shortened season equaled another day of craziness across the area. Zeeland West and West Ottawa kicked off the day with a nail biter in which Kobe Haglund hit a three to win with :34 left for West Ottawa. Otsego played a non-conference game against Hamilton and fell 67-57. Fennville challenged themselves with another tough game against a fellow D3 squad Covenant Christian and lost 60-46. Over at Mol Arena, Cornerstone hosted two big time showcase games. FH Northern won their 9th straight game against Grandville despite a 27 point effort from Tommy Gregwer. In the second game at Cornerstone it was a D3 battle between Schoolcraft and Pewamo-Westphalia. Schooclraft’s winning streak prevailed as they won 55-49. Up in Reeths-Puffer, Rockford played an insane game winning in Triple-Overtime 67-63 over the Rockets. Staying in the Muskegon area, the Big Reds hosted Kalamazoo Central and won 56-55 due to some late game heroics by Jordan Briggs. Lastly, Benton Harbor fresh off a loss to Williamston, hosted Saginaw Arthur Hill and came away with a big victory 73-70.
Best Win: Benton Harbor over Arthur Hill 73-70
Benton Harbor took a road loss on Friday against Williamston, but was ready to bounce back on Saturday. The Tigers improved their home record to (5-0) this season led by 29 points from Kentrell Pullian. Not many teams ever go into Benton Harbor and come away with a win.
Next Best: Muskegon over K-Central 56-55
In a battle of young teams, K-Central made the trip to Muskegon to face the Keith Guy coached Big Reds. Muskegon’s Jordan Briggs played fantastic in the final minute, making a three to tie the game with :14 left and a free throw to win with :8 left.
Craziest Game: Rockford over Reeths-Puffer 67-63 (3OT)
Rockford came into the game on a six-game winning streak. Reeths-Puffer hasn’t been an extremely impressive team this season, but they still have talent with Mitchelson & Smith. The Rockets fought hard but fell to Rockford in the third overtime.
Best Performance: Benton Harbor’s Kentrell Pullian (2021 G): 29 points
Pullian had a huge game to lead the Tigers past previously undefeated Arthur Hill. He is one of the better unsigned 2021 guards.
