Heart, determination, resilience, likability. I'm obviously not the tallest player on the field, so I always compete like I have something to prove. In terms of resilience, I broke my ankle and had surgery the summer prior to my sophomore season. I missed the entire football season. This past season as a junior, I returned and played on an ankle that was still not 100%, affecting my ability. My ankle is now 100% and I am currently working hard in the off-season with speed, skill, and weight training. The adversity I went through has only made me mentally stronger, more resilient, and more determined than ever for a successful team and individual 2020 football season. Im easy going and personable off the field, and get along with peers and teammates of all backgrounds. I also like to set a good example to others on and off the field.
I believe I am an intelligent and coachable football player. I take criticism well and my feelings don't get hurt if a coach gets on me for something. On the field, I am shifty and elusive. I use my size to my advantage. I find and create space between defenders and myself. I run good routes and come out of breaks well. I have excellent vision and see the field in front of me well. I also possess very good soft hands. I don't shy away from contact and believe pound for pound, I am one of the toughest players on the field.
I was the new kid when I entered high school. But, it was an easy transition. Freshman season was a lot of fun. We had a good team and I had a great individual season. I was brought up to JV for a couple of games.
As I mentioned earlier, I missed my entire sophomore season due to injury. I was heartbroken, and dot not have fun watching from the sidelines. But, I did not miss a single practice. I was there every day to still be a part of the team.
My Junior year brought change to the program. A new varsity head coach was hired. He installed a new spread offense. I was moved from running back to slot receiver. I didn't like the change at first, but I didn't complain about it. I learned to enjoy the position and have since embraced the change.. Although, I still love running the ball. It was a disappointing season both as a team and individually. Senior leadership was inconsistent. I think learning a new system caused a lot of problems offensively. My ankle was never 100% until the last third of the season. I was not able to cut like I did before I was injured. My coach told me my burst wasn't the same. I wasn't happy about the season, but I was very appreciative that I was able to be back playing again.
I look forward to my senior season. I have a very positive outlook. Senior leadership will be better, along with changes and adjustments the head coach is making. I have been working diligently this off-season to have a successful senior football season, both as a team and individually.
I have a great desire to play college football. I love football. At one time, I had aspirations of playing for Michigan State. I came to the conclusion on my own that this wasn't in my future. I simply want the opportunity to compete on the small stage at a great academic institution. I look to my father as inspiration. He too had dreams of division 1 football, but had the same realization as me sometime in high school. He was smaller (5'7"), and was afforded the opportunity to play division 2 at Hillsdale. I would ask any coach not to discount or underestimate me based on my size. I am a true STUDENT-athlete, who plans on being successful in life outside of football. But, with football helping me along the way.
