Zeeland West defeated DeWitt 32-20 Saturday in football semifinal action to earn a chance at a D3 state championship crown next weekend at Ford Field.

The Dux lost to Forest Hills Central last season in the semifinals. With that still on some current players’ minds, Zeeland West sealed the deal this time around.

Zeeland West was another in a long line of westside-dominance Saturday, jumping out to an early 20-7 at halftime. DeWitt had not been held under 42 points in a game this season.

Early in the fourth quarter, the Dux led 26-13 in what was still a hotly-contested battle.

Both teams would go on to score another touchdown, with Zeeland West doing enough to hold DeWitt’s vaunted offense at bay and earn the win.

The Dux now return to the state finals for the first time since 2015 when they earned a championship with a win over Flint Powers.
