Whiteford pitches shutout in 65-0 win over Whitmore Lake

OTTAWA LAKE – The Whiteford Bobcats can play defense, too.

The Bobcat offensive machine continued to roll Friday night as Whiteford beat Whitmore Lake 65-0 to improve to 4-0 on the season and win for the 18th consecutive time. But, a defense that limited Whitmore Lake to just 32 yards rushing and 31 yards passing was just as impressive.

Linebacker Nathan Bauman returned an interception for a touchdown and was in on a team-best nine tackles and Logan Murphy also intercepted a pass for the 4-0 Bobcats.

Whiteford got the ball first and got things started with a 39-yard scoring strike from Ty Eitniear to Bradyn Clark-Gilmore with 11:27 left in the first quarter. On the ensuing kickoff, the Bobcats recovered an onside kick and, on the very next play, Eitniear again found Clark-Gilmore for a touchdown. Hunter Lake added a 19-yard scoring run and Bauman’s interception return closed out the first quarter scoring.

In the second quarter, Zack Bertz and Murphy had scoring runs and Eitniear had two for the Bobcats, who led 58-0 at the intermission to set a record for most points in a half in Whiteford history.

Devon Shaw closed out the scoring for Whiteford with a touchdown run with 2:04 left in the third quarter. D’Ondre Shaw led the Bobcats in rushing with 103 yards on just six carries. Lake, Bertz and Murphy all had at least 50 yards on the ground while Eitniear added 49. Eitniear completed both of his passes – to Clark-Gilmore – for 74 yards.

Eitniear has completed 10 passes for 299 yards this season – and seven of those throws have gone for touchdowns.

With two receiving touchdowns Friday, Clark-Gilmore now has 14 career touchdown receptions, the most of any Whiteford player in school history.

Bauman was perfect on three extra-point kicks for Whiteford, which had 387 yards rushing and 74 passing as a team.

The Bobcats closed out the game by taking a knee over the final couple of minutes of action. The entire second half was operated under a running clock.

For the season, the Bobcat defense has given up a rushing touchdown to Blissfield in the season opener and two passing touchdowns by Summerfield. The defense has shutouts against Stryker and Whitmore Lake.
