West Michigan Top Prospects of 2022 (1-5)
The top prospects from West Michigan in the class of 2022 made a name for themselves and an impact on the court well before their senior seasons. Now that they'll be entering their final year of high school, each of these prospects has the ability and opportunity to put their stamp on their respective programs and continue their careers at the next level, wherever that may be.
Be sure to check out the prospects ranked 21-25, 16-20, 11-15, and 6-10. Also, stay tuned as I'll begin to break down the top prospects in the 2023 class from West Michigan.
1. Kyler Vanderjagt, 6’4 G, Northview
Kyler started to gain national attention on the recruiting scene last season, and I believe he will continue to earn scholarship offers from big-time programs across the country in the ensuing months. As a junior, Kyler averaged 23 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists per game. Kyler has the physical tools, athleticism, and in-game IQ that makes him West Michigan’s most sought-after recruit. He has the shotmaking skills to fill it up from any spot on the court, and the awareness to pick his spots to either hunt shots or find his teammates for open looks. One quality about Kyler’s game that stands out above others is his in-game demeanor. He’s an even-keeled playmaker who plays an efficient style of basketball without letting in-game emotions dictate his performance.
2. Jack Karasinski, 6’7 SF, Grand Rapids Catholic Central
Jack was the catalyst for Grand Rapids Catholic Central this past season, leading the Cougars to the Division 2 MHSAA state championship. Jack is an athletic wing with a unique ability to score in a variety of ways. Jack displayed a smooth jumper from 15 feet this season, and a natural ability to score above the rim. His season stat line of 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists per game would most likely be inflated if not for the amount of talent on Catholic Central. Jack holds offers from six Division 1 mid-majors, however, expect that number to grow this summer.
3. Ethan Hill, 6’8 F, Muskegon
Ethan had possibly the biggest junior year in terms of making a splash and establishing himself as a Division 1 prospect with a ton of upside. He’s a lanky, athletic forward that can go to work and get you 20 and 15 on a nightly basis. His soft touch in the paint is consistent and he’s flashed a good-looking mid-range jumper. Ethan’s passing ability in the paint is his most underrated part of his game. Ethan sucks the defense in and sets his teammates up with point-blank looks in the paint. His length on the defensive end creates a ton of problems and he has the lateral quickness to guard the 2-5 out on the perimeter.
4. Brady Titus, 5’10 G, Tri-Unity Christian
Brady earned first-team all-state honors this past season, leading Tri-Unity to a Division 4 state runner-up finish. The junior guard averaged 21 points, 2.5 steals, and 5 assists per game. Brady is one of the best point guards in the state and has been one of the top-end guards in West Michigan for some time now. His ability to control the pace of the game is evident every time he’s on the court. Brady has a knockdown jumper in the midrange, can break down his defender with several moves, and is a willing passer who sets his teammates up with quality shot opportunities. In my opinion, he has the best handles among any player in West Michigan and arguably the state. Expect Brady to lead Tri-Unity to another deep postseason run next season.
5. Jalen Overway, 6’10 F, Holland Christian
Jalen emerged as one of the premier big men in West Michigan, showcasing his size and footwork in the OK Blue. He’s the best back-to-the-basket scorer in West Michigan whose post-move repertoire is continuing to evolve. Standing at 6’10, Jalen uses his size to overpower opponents and has the light footwork to maneuver in the paint rather effortlessly. Jalen has also flashed a solid mid-range game, further showcasing his ability to score.
