  • Lakeshore won their fifth straight game, defeating Lakeview by four points. Senior forward TJ Mitchell led the Lancers with 20 points and 11 rebounds while freshman JJ Frakes chipped in 16 points. Lakeshore still leads the SMAC-West with a (5-1) record with Portage Central a half-game back at (5-2). Lakeshore can clinch at least a share of the division title with a win over Mattawan next Friday.

Mattawan 62, St. Joseph 52

  • Mattawan avenged an early-season loss to St. Joseph with a ten-point home victory. After seven straight away games, the Wildcats were able to play in front of their home fans and earn one of their best victories of the season. Soph. Noah Vanlaningham had 16 points while senior Ryan Van Liere also had 16 points and 3 steals. Mattawan will look to play spoiler next week hosting Lakeshore who is in search of a division title.

Loy Norrix 54, K-Central 53

  • Cedric Huntley led Loy Norrix with 18 points including the game-winning three-pointer from the logo at midcourt to defeat Kalamazoo Central by one point. The victory was Loy Norrix’s first win over rival K-Central since 2013. After winning seven straight games, K-Central has now lost two of their past three falling to (10-6).

Game I Attended: Gull Lake 59, BC Central 44

Gull Lake entered the night with an opportunity to clinch a share of the SMAC-East division title with a win. Earlier in the evening K-Central lost to Loy Norrix on a half-court shot, which gave Gull Lake the ability to clinch the entire division title with a win. The Blue Devils got off to a quick 7-2 start less than three minutes into the game led by Tyler Corstange. BC Central got within two points prior to Gull Lake ending the quarter on a 5-0 run. The Blue Devils opened up a ten point lead three minutes into the second quarter with a score of 21-11. Gull Lake would take a 26-17 lead into the break led by 11 points from senior Tyler Corstange. The Blue Devils were lights out in the third quarter starting out on a 13-0 run including three three-pointers in a row, two of which came from Carter Birdsall. Following the 13-0 run, Gull Lake led 39-17 with 5:15 left in the third quarter. Gull Lake was leading 44-27 after the third quarter in which they shot 7-11 from the floor and 4-8 from three-point range. BC Central brought pressure in the fourth quarter giving the Blue Devils lots of trouble with multiple turnovers. The Bearcats were able to crawl back into the game and trail by nine points with under three minutes remaining. Ultimately, Gull Lake pulled out the victory defeating BC Central 59-44 to clinch their second straight division title. The Blue Devils were led by four scorers in double-figures: Nathan Louden (16 points), Kai Watts (11 points), Carter Birdsall (11 points), and Tyler Corstange (11 points). The lone Bearcat in double-figues was Karlito Campbell with 10 points, as Gull Lake was able to keep Ke’Marion Tucker in check with only eight points.
