Week 10 Mid/Northern Michigan Playoff Recap!
As I sit here, looking at my phone every 30 seconds for updates and news breaks on all the games tonight throughout Michigan I think about how blessed I truly am to be in this position covering for the DZone. It truly is a dream come true to be able to cover Mid/Northern Michigan football and let me tell you if you’re looking to get into this field it is totally worth it the playoffs are crazy!
I picked all of these games earlier in the week and I can tell you it wasn’t pretty what my record was this week! I did tell you there is no science to this. It’s high school football and I was dead wrong about a couple of teams and games. It was still fun to give you what knowledge I did have though!
Now that I’m done making you listen to myself talk about myself I’ll give you what you all want RECAPS!
D2: Traverse City Central went into Midland and took down the #1 seed Chemics 21-13 shutting down a potent Chemics offense.
D2: Traverse City West had the boys from Midland Dow come up to Traverse and sent them home early putting on a show winning 49-19 and setting up a huge District Championship with cross-town rival Traverse City Central.
D3: Bay City Central ended the season getting blanked at Linden 35-0. A tough way to go out but a success just to be in the position they were. Had a hard time moving the ball on a stout Linden Defense.
D4: Bay City John Glenn which made the long trek up to Escanaba did not have the defensive showing they were hoping for getting ran all over in the loss 40-14 to the Eskymos.
D4: Talk about a thriller! Tied 6-6 with a minute to go injured Brec Alward takes it in for the score to go up 14-6 but Flint Powers goes the other way in less than a minute with their touchdown to tie 14-14 to OT we go where Powers would miss a field goal and Alma’s Alward finished the deal with another TD run to have the Panthers edge Powers 20-14.
D5: Clare took business early and often and the front 7 shutdown any running game for Chip Hills, Clare won big 47-7 over Chip Hills.
D5: A scare for the divisions only undefeated team got by a tough Almont team 31-28 in the opening round. No games are given in the playoffs. Frankenmuth learned that.
D5: A high-scoring affair at Swan Valley saw the Vikings top Bridgeport 59-22. Emmett Boehler once again to be one of the most productive backs in the state.
D5: After losing to Freeland two weeks ago in week 8 Carrollton got its revenge in a playoff atmosphere taking care of Freeland on both sides of the ball in a dominating 25-6 win.
D6: Ithaca was excited to be back in their comfort zone of D6 and proved it tonight dismantling Byron in a shutout in their first game back since the 2015 State Championship winning 43-0.
D6: It wasn’t pretty for the offense but Millington eeked out a 7-0 win over Hemlock. Like Frankenmuth no wins are given in playoffs and Millington learned that one tonight.
D6: Another thriller in the great Harrison-Houghton Lake rivalry saw the Bobcats of Houghton Lake avenge a two point week 7 loss with a four point week 10 win. 20-16 Houghton Lake.
D7: Welcome to the playoffs St. Louis, now that you’re here might as well stay a while! A big 13-12 win sends the Sharks onto a district championship and Beaverton ending 2017 on two straight losses after winning their first eight.
D7: 33 unanswered points for the Huskies of Breckenridge gave them a 33-7 win over Oscoda and gave Gratiot County a 4th victory on the night joining Ithaca, Alma, and St. Louis.
D8: AuGres on the brink of the school's first playoff victory fell short at home against Hillman without ever finding their groove on offense final score 15-6.
D8: Alcona had it’s high powered offense a little off tonight but made the plays on defense to win 28-12 over Johannesburg-Lewiston.
D8: A rematch from just last week saw the Saginaw Nouvel Panthers get the best of Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart once again. This time a bit closer with Nouvel winning 29-7.
With that, we have 12 teams advancing to Round 2! Exciting times in High School Football especially in Mid/Northern Michigan!
