UD Jesuit Replaces River Rouge as CC Opponent in Fox Sports Game of the Week
NOVI, Mich., October 15, 2020 -- Detroit Catholic Central High School today announced it will face University of Detroit Jesuit High School in the Fox Sports Detroit High School Football Game of the Week on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
The game will be held on Tom Mach Field at Catholic Central’s Fr. Elmer ’46 Stadium and broadcast live on Fox Sports Detroit.
University of Detroit Jesuit replaces previously scheduled opponent River Rouge, which informed Catholic Central on Wednesday night it was backing out of the game.
Catholic Central Athletic Director Aaron Babicz immediately reached out to CC’s Catholic League Family, and the University of Detroit Jesuit responded to the call on short notice.
“UDJ really stepped up here,” said Babicz. “We are grateful that they are willing to join us in our decision to choose Faith over Fear by letting our young men safely compete.”
River Rouge said it would no longer honor the varsity football game due to concern about potential COVID exposure due to CC’s 10/9 game against St. Mary’s Prep. St. Mary’s has been forced to cancel this week’s game due to a school outbreak.
The players in question on St. Mary’s roster were not involved in the game on 10/9, CC players were not part of any contact tracing conducted by the Oakland County Health Department, and the CC athletic office has offered to have all players and coaches complete a Rapid COVID test prior to the game.
In spite of these assurances, River Rouge opted to recuse themselves from the game.
