Top Performers From The MHSAA State Finals

The 2021 MHSAA football season came to a close this past weekend as teams across the state claimed state championships. Check out who the top performers were from all eight games below.

D1: Belleville 55, Rochester Adams 33

Bryce Underwood, QB, Belleville 2025”

Bryce completed 12-of-21 passes for 221 yards and five touchdowns and ran five times for 62 yards and a touchdown in Belleville’s win over Rochester Adams in the Division 1 State Championship.

Jeremiah Caldwell, WR, Belleville 2022"

Jeremiah caught four passes for 203 yards and three touchdowns in Belleville’s win.

Aaron Alexander, OLB, Belleville 2022"

Aaron who is committed to Michigan was all over the place with 5 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 TFL's, and 1 key punt block.

Jeremiah Beasley, MLB, Belleville"

Beasley was another young player who had a major impact for Belleville with 5 tackles and a PBU. It seemed his #1 jersey was in on many more tackles than the box score showed. He also scored on a 25-yard run.

Parker Picot, QB, Rochester Adams 2023"

Parker completed 8-of-21 passes for 198 yards and three touchdowns and ran 23 times for 98 yards in Rochester Adams’ loss to Belleville.

Brady Prieskorn, WR, Rochester Adams 2024"

Brady caught four passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns in Rochester Adams’ loss to Belleville.

D2: De La Salle 41, Traverse City Central 14

Brady Drogosh, QB, De La Salle 2023"

Brady completed 14-of-19 passes for 142 yards and three touchdowns and ran 19 times for 177 yards and a score in De La Salle’s win over Traverse City Central in the Division 2 State Championship.

Triston Nichols, WR, De La Salle 2023"

Triston caught five passes for 50 yards and two touchdowns in De La Salle’s win over Traverse City Central.

Mason Muragin, DE, De La Salle 2023"

Muragin added to his record-breaking year with another TFL, he finished the season with 31 TFL's. Muragin finished the state final with 6 total tackles.

D3: Detroit King 25, DeWitt 21

Terrance Brown, RB, Detroit Martin Luther King 2022"

Terrance ran 11 times for 113 yards and two touchdowns in King’s win over DeWitt in the Division 3 State Championship.

Dante Moore, QB, Detroit Martin Luther King 2023”

Dante completed 18-of-24 passes for 228 yards in King’s win over DeWitt.

Thomas McIntosh, WR, DeWitt 2022”

Thomas caught six passes for 90 yards and a touchdown in DeWitt’s loss to King.

Bryce Kurncz, DB, DeWitt 2023”

Bryce had seven tackles, including two tackles for loss, a sack, and a forced fumble in DeWitt’s loss.

Ty Holtz, QB/DB, DeWitt 2022”

Ty completed 10 of 18 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns and returned an interception for a 69-yard touchdown in DeWitt’s loss to King.

D4: Chelsea 55, Unity Christian 52

Lucas Dunn, QB, Chelsea 2022”

Lucas completed 25-of-36 passes for 308 yards and six touchdowns in Chelsea’s win.

Lucas Hanifan, WR, Chelsea 2022”

Lucas caught nine passes for 139 yards and five touchdowns in Chelsea’s win.

Cameron Chandler, QB/S, Unity Christian 2022”

Cameron ran 14 times for 116 yards and three touchdowns and completed 3-of-5 passes for 98 yards and two touchdowns in Unity Christian’s loss to Chelsea. Cameron also had an interception on defense.

Drew Chandler, RB, Unity Christian 2022”

Drew compiled 298 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns, and had six tackles, one tackle for loss, and an interception in Unity Christian’s loss.

Trenton Hill, RB, Chelsea 2022”

Trenton ran 33 times for 150 yards and a touchdown and caught three passes for 36 yards in Chelsea’s win.

Ryan Shinaberry, LB, Unity Christian 2022”

Ryan led the Crusaders with 16 tackles in Unity’s loss to Chelsea.

D5: Grand Rapids Catholic Central 31, Marine City 7

John Passinault, QB, GR Catholic Central 2022”

John completed 15-of-28 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns in Catholic Central’s win.

Nolan Ziegler, WR/S, GR Catholic Central 2022”

Nolan caught seven passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns and led the Cougars defensively with 13 tackles.

Wyatt Walker, LB, Marine City 2022”

Wyatt led Marine City’s defense with nine tackles.

D6: Lansing Catholic 16, Warren Michigan Collegiate 6

Joey Baker, QB, Lansing Catholic 2022”

Joey completed 17-of-39 passes for 181 yards and a touchdown and ran 16 times for 43 yards and a touchdown in Lansing Catholic’s win.

Owen Biergans, WR, Lansing Catholic 2022”

Owen caught seven passes for 69 yards and a touchdown and led Lansing Catholic’s defense with 11 tackles, a tackle for a loss, and a sack in Lansing Catholic’s win.

Alex Watters, WR/S, Lansing Catholic 2022"

Watters finished with 6 catches for 78 yards, 7 carries for 35 yards, and 1 interception to cap off an incredible career at Lansing Catholic.

Tre Redding, WR, Michigan Collegiate 2022”

Tre caught four passes for 97 yards and a touchdown.

Alfonso Gray III, DB, Michigan Collegiate 2023”

Alfonso had two interceptions and caught two passes for 48 yards.

D7: Pewamo-Westphalia 14, Lawton 10

Troy Wertmen, RB/LB/P, Pewamo-Westphalia 2023”

Troy punted six times for 232 yards, averaging 38.8 yards per punt. Troy also ran 15 times for 55 yards and had a tackle for loss on defense.

Damian Spitzley, DE, Pewamo-Westphalia 2022"

Spitzley may have only recorded 4 tackles, but 3 were clutch tackles for loss that played a role in their win over Lawton.

Carter Cosby, S, Lawton 2023”

Carter led Lawton’s defense with nine tackles and an interception.

D8: Hudson 14, Beal City 7

Nick Kopin, RB, Hudson 2022”

Nick ran 25 times for 134 yards and two touchdowns in Hudson’s win over Beal City.

Bronson Marry, RB/S, Hudson

Bronson had 4 tackles, a tackle for loss, and a key interception.

Carter Fussman, WR, Beal City 2023”

Carter caught two passes for 109 yards and a touchdown.

Josh Wilson, Beal City DL 2024”

Josh led Beal City with 13 tackles.
