Updated Brackets and Semi-Final Locations
Region 1:
Reed City won their first Regional Championship vs. state powerhouse, Menominee on Saturday evening. The state's leading touchdown runner, Phillip Jones had 2 defining plays in the game. 1. a kickoff returned for a touchdown following Menominee's first touchdown and then 2. he helped drive Reed City following Menominee's kickoff to a .38 second drive before halftime in which he scored a touchdown before the break. Reed City QB/S Jackson Price had a great day on both sides of the ball. Jones converted 4, 2-point conversion attempts in the Coyotes 46-34 win.
Region 2:
Swan Valley was picked by some to lose, fortunately that thought never crossed our mind as the Vikings won 48-14. Junior QB Alex Fries had a big game with 300 passing yards as Swan Valley netted 530+ yards of offense. Chase Mendoza had over 100 rushing and 100 receiving yards in the win.
Region 3:
The 4-time defending Champions, West Catholic had a late 28-14 lead, but Portland came back and a 2 point conversion was no good. West Catholic won 28-26. Gaetano Vallone had 2 rushing touchdowns and 1 passing touchdown in the win.
Region 4:
In a gritty back and forth game, Frankenmuth's red zone defense was the difference. Frankenmuth LB Nate Stone intercepted Algonac following heavy pressure and returned it from red zone to red zone, shortly after Muth QB Zach Jacobs scored from 17 yards out, to send Frankenmuth into the break up 14-0 instead of potentially 7-7 or 7-3. Frankenmuth held tough later in the 4th quarter, forcing the Muskrats to turn the ball over on downs in the red zone. Frankenmuth won 17-7.
