Recap of Ottawa Lake Whiteford's 54-6 win over Petersburg Summerfield
OTTAWA LAKE – Logan Murphy ran for 212 yards on just 12 carries and scored three touchdowns as Whiteford built a 42-6 halftime lead and went on to beat Summerfield, 54-6.
Zach Bertz also scored three times, Bradyn Clark-Gilmore rushed for 101 yards and Thomas Eitniear threw two touchdown passes to Hunter Lake.
Murphy scored on a 73-yard rushing play on Whiteford’s first play from scrimmage. He scored twice in the final three minutes of the first half on runs of 50 and 66 yards. The 66-yard run came on the final play of the first half after the Bobcats forced the Bulldogs to punt. That score led to a running clock the entire second half.
“Logan has the ability to turn on the jets and separate himself from the defense,” Whiteford coach Jason Mensing said. “It was really a great start for us. He has great speed and when you have great speed, you have the ability to turn a good play into a great play.”
The Bobcats had 542 yards of total offense, including 460 on the ground.
“It was a hard fought football game,” Mensing said. “That first half we got a little bit of momentum and things started falling in our favor.”
Murphy was running behind a senior offensive-line that includes All-State tackle Lucas Tesznar, Jarret Atherton, Jordan Book, Alex Kohler and Jacob Lewis.
Eitniear, Whiteford’s third-year starting quarterback completed five of six passes for 82 yards. He now has 26 career touchdown passes, two off the school record.
Abba Risley had 10 tackles to lead the Bobcat defense while Gilmore recovered a fumble.
“It’s an 11-man game and all 11 are doing a great job,” Mensing said.
The Bobcats are 3-0 and 1-0 in the Tri-County Conference. They will travel to Whitmore Lake (1-2, 0-1) Friday.
Summerfield had only 50 yards rushing but junior quarterback Brenden Zeipekis completed seven passes for 156 yards and a touchdown to Noah Cunningham. Cunningham caught five passes for 135 yards. He also led the Bulldogs with 26 rushing yards on one carry.
The Bulldogs are 2-1 (0-1 in TCC).
