Preview of Mount Pleasant vs. Saginaw
For the second consecutive year the Mt. Pleasant Oilers have started 0-2 and are looking up as they continue their season. This Friday the Oilers travel to Saginaw to play the Trojans of Saginaw High School.
This is also the second consecutive year that both teams come into their week three Saginaw Valley League- Blue match-up. The Oilers have lost their first two games by a combined score of 12-47, but 12th year head coach Jason McIntyre is still confident with his team that a win is in the near future.
“A win would be big for us,” said McIntyre, “We need the confidence and it doesn’t matter how good of program or what traditions you have when you start losing games, then guys start questioning the system and stop buying in.”
Adversity is nothing new for the Oilers as they have struggled on offense this season, but done very well defensively.
“We’ve talked a lot this week about cleaning up the little things especially on offense,” said McIntyre, “We need to be a lot more physical on offense.”
The defense has kept the the Oilers in games this year as they lost by eight week one to Midland Dow and were down 14-6 mid fourth quarter against Davison.
“We are flying around on defense and playing really well on defense and they’ve really kept us in some of these games,” said McIntyre.
Coach McIntyre had a few keys to winning their game this week against Saginaw.
“No big plays! The way Saginaw’s defense is set up it is very big play orientated,” said McIntyre, “We need to make them drive the field and put them behind the chains.”
