Pilots rally to earn fifth straight regional appearance
Warren De La Salle earned a spot in next week’s regional with a 35-21 win Friday night against Grosse Pointe South.
The Blue Devils struck first, holding on to a 7-0 advantage after the first quarter. The Pilots struggled to score this season in comparison to the last three years (they scored under 300 points this fall but had over 500 points from 2021-2023) however, they started to heat up before the break.
De La Salle took the lead for the first time in the second quarter, holding a 14-7 advantage at halftime. Both defenses had shut out their opponent for a quarter, making the second half intriguing as to which defense would crack first.
GP South got back on the scoreboard in the third quarter, but De La Salle still doubled their lead taking a 28-14 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Although the Blue Devils battled until the end, De La Salle hung on for the 14-point win while clinching their fifth straight trip to the regional.
The Pilots have not lost since September 27, proving they can win a series of tough games.
