In one of the most anticipated games of the night, Oxford football held on for a 21-14 victory over Davison Friday night to extend their tremendous season.

Oxford was first on the board with an 11-yard run by Luke Johnson with just over four minutes left in the first quarter.

Davison tied the game with over eight minutes left in the second quarter when Wesley Hughes converted a four-yard rushing touchdown.

The Cardinals’ highly-ranked QB Jaxson Dosh gave the Cardinals a 14-7 lead late in the second quarter with a 35-yard touchdown strike to Caleb Charchan.

Davison’s Cortez Porter picked off Oxford on the ensuing drive, allowing the Cardinals to take a 14-7 lead into the break.

Down but certainly not out, Oxford tied the game 14-14 with a long touchdown pass from Jack Hendrix to Drew Cady with just over five minutes left in the third quarter.

The two state final hopefuls were locked up 14-14 entering the fourth quarter, both teams hoping for the magic moment that would help them advance to the next round.

Oxford received that moment with a one-yard touchdown run by Luke Johnson with just under nine minutes remaining in the game.

The Wildcats hung on to their slender 21-14 lead throughout the rest of the fourth quarter, holding Davison scoreless in the second half to advance to next week’s district.
