Michigan HS Football Pre-District Preview: Flat Rock vs. Detroit Denby

Throughout the week, we will provide previews for some of the top matchups throughout each round of the playoffs.

Division 5 Matchup:

Detroit Denby (6-3)

One of the state’s great nicknames - the Tars enter the playoffs having won six of their last seven games after an 0-2 start. Denby scored 304 points in the regular season, while allowing just 95. The Tars had three shut-out victories, and all of them were by at least 46 points. The only downside to Denby’s season was their performance in close games (decided by 10 points or less). The Tars lost both of those such games.

Flat Rock (7-2)

Flat Rock has an electric QB in Graham Junge, who is also a star on the basketball court. The Rams scored a whopping 377 points this season, while lighting up the scoreboard for 40-plus points six times. This could be a truly enthralling offensive shootout. Flat Rock’s football season had struggled for a couple decades but have now reached the playoffs three straight years. The winner of this game could become a dangerous matchup the rest of the way.
