Throughout the week, we will provide previews for some of the top matchups throughout each round of the playoffs.

Division 1 Matchup:

Oxford (6-3)

This is Oxford’s third playoff appearance since 2015. They outscored opponents 223-157 this season, proving they could win some close, low-scoring games. Oxford also scored 38 points or more three times, showcasing an offensive punch in key moments. The Wildcats entered Week 9 on a five-game win streak, but suffered a tough, 28-0 loss against Macomb Dakota to end the regular season. They will be looking to bounce back against a physical Davison team that reached the state semifinal last season. Oxford has not made it out of the district since 2001, so an historic opportunity awaits if it can get hot at the right time.

Davison (7-2)

The Cardinals scored a whopping 390 points this season. Their high-powered offense is led by a number of next-level stars who play a physical, attacking style. Davison’s Week 8 49-45 loss against Grand Blanc was one of this season’s classics. Only one time (a season-opening loss against De La Salle in which they scored three points) did Clarkston score under 35 in a game. This will be a test of wills, as Davison’s high-octane offense clashes with Oxford’s stingy defense. The Cardinals are looking to build on last season’s long run that took them all the way to the semifinal.
