The Lansing area enjoyed a classic Friday night, as Lansing Catholic earned a 36-29 win over Chesaning.

Lansing Catholic kicked off the scoring with a touchdown pass midway through the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead.

Chesaning answered with a punishing touchdown run, but missed the extra point, trailing 7-6 after the first quarter.

Fans knew early this would be a tight game, with Lansing Catholic making it 14-6 in the second quarter. Chesaning immediately responded, but missed the two-point conversion. Lansing Catholic led 14-12 heading into halftime.

Early in the third quarter, Lansing Catholic’s defense forced a pick-six, returning an errant throw for their third touchdown of the game while taking a 21-12 lead.

Once again, Chesaning showed their resolve with a quick answer, now trailing just 21-19 midway through the third quarter.

With one quarter to go, Lansing Catholic struck first in the fourth quarter, taking a 28-19 lead with opportunities running out for Chesaning.

Setting up a late come-back attempt, Chesaning drilled a field goal to make it a one-score game at 28-22 midway through the fourth quarter.

But the pattern of the game again repeated itself with Lansing Catholic building a double-digit lead with a touchdown and a two-point conversion to grab a convincing 34-22 lead.

Chesaning added a late touchdown, but Lansing Catholic held on for the upset and a trip to next week’s district round.
