Lansing Catholic defeats Boyne City, earns chance to claim D6 state title (Full Story)
Lansing Catholic earned the chance to compete next week at Ford Field in Detroit for a D6 state championship after defeating Boyne City 34-22 in Saturday’s semifinal.
The Cougars flexed their muscles on the opening drive, going 60 yards before punching in a one-yard touchdown to take a 6-0 lead.
Cougars star Alex Fernandez earned his second one-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to give Lansing CC a 13-0 advantage.
Lansing CC added a passing touchdown with under a minute left in the first half to take a convincing 20-0 lead into the break.
Ramblers star Ryan Pate quickly got Boyne City on the board with a 55-yard touchdown run just over a minute into the third quarter.
The Cougars answered midway through the third with another passing touchdown to take a 27-7 lead.
Just before the end of the third quarter, Spate added his second touchdown of the afternoon to put Boyne City behind 27-14 entering the fourth quarter.
With over nine minutes remaining in the game, the Cougars struck again with their third passing touchdown to give the team a decisive 34-14 advantage.
But the Ramblers wouldn’t quit. Spate scored his third touchdown of the game with just over five minutes left in the game - also converting the two-point conversion - to get within 12 points.
Lansing Catholic was able to hold on and earn the 34-22 victory.
The Cougars return to Ford Field for the first time since 2021 when they earned a state title.
