Jon Wassink finishes his South Christian career on highest note possible
The South Christian Sailors used a little bit of luck but it was mostly all precise runs and throws by the Western Michigan QB commit, Jon Wassink. A missed PAT by Lansing Sexton would be the one and only decisive factor in South Christian's 28-27 win. The missed PAT occurred with 10:43 left following Kahari Foy-Walton's touchdown that would of evened the score at 28-28.
The South Christian QB, Jon Wassink scored 3 passing touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown. Wassink was 14/21 for 179 passing yards and 136 rushing yards on just 18 carries. The Western Michigan QB had a huge bomb down the sideline for 40 yards as Wassink would find Eric VanVoorst with 7 seconds left for a 20 yard touchdown. 24 seconds later it would be Wassink who took a carry 68 yards with just 17 seconds into the 3rd quarter for a touchdown.
Sexton would have the momentum for the rest of the game for the most part as they slowed down Wassink, yardage wise but the damage was done with 315 yards of total offense and 4 touchdowns.
Jon Wassink broke out as a Sophomore leading South Christian all the way to the finals before he was injured in the Semi-Final game and watched as his team crushed Country Day. As a Junior he led the Sailors back to the D4 finals but was ousted by Marine City. This year it was Wassink who finished with 12 straight wins and headed out on a high note after what will go down as one of the best careers in South Christian history.
