Heavyweights highlight the "Michigan Made Combine" MVP's (Top Performers Recap)
The D Zone this week has driven over 1,500 miles around Michigan, checking up on prospects we knew about or wanted to see more on.
Two new prospects emerged on Saturday at the inaugural Michigan Made Combine at the Freeland SportsZone that The D Zone was unaware of prior to the event. Both are due for upward spikes in their recruiting process in the upcoming weeks/months.
Traverse City Saint Francis 2019 OLB/TE Tom Hegewald:
- Hegewald tore through the combine drill testing portion of the event as he was near the top in each drill. Hegewald also impressive in the weight lifting portion of the event.
Hegewald was measured at 6'2 198 lbs and was impressive with a 4.2 short shuttle, 8'8" broad jump, and 7.12 L-Drill time.
On his junior film, Hegewald was a standout on both sides of the ball for the Division 6 semi-finalists. Hegewald was a big-time playmaker for the Gladiators with big hits, great instincts, and is physically/athletically ahead of the curve in-game action. Hegewald has an older brother currently at Division 1-FCS program Dayton.
Swan Valley 2020 DE/FB Carson Berenyi:
- No player at the Michigan Made Combine was more physically impressive than the sophomore Athlete. The 6'2 234 lbs prospect caught our attention literally the minute I walked in with a 8'2" broad jump. A 4'2 short shuttle and 7.44 L-Drill showed how well he moved on his feet.
Berenyi had all eyes on him when he lifted as he benched 285 several times and squatted 420 twice.
On his sophomore varsity highlights, Berenyi had some plays from the DE position as he pursues the ball well and despite being a sophomore his physical attributes are noticeable. As a fullback Berenyi cleared plenty of holes and quickly bursts up field to deliver his blocks.
Other MVP's were:
Hemlock 2020 Derek Mills and Reese 2018 Matt Nobles (The senior was #1 performer in all testing stations)
