Gobles beats No. 1 Martin in battle of undefeated teams (Story)

The Gobles Tigers proved last year wasn’t a fluke with a spirited 20-14 win over Martin.

Gobles beat Martin last fall in the regular season, only to lose in the playoffs as the Clippers went on to win an 8-man state title.

With that loss burning in their memory, Gobles sought redemption in a tough road battle. The Tigers took a two-score lead into the fourth quarter. Martin made a rally, but Gobles held on to remain undefeated (7-0).

Gobles proved they were for real with an impressive 38-8 win over NorthPointe Christian earlier this season, and cemented that with Friday’s victory.

The Tigers can’t afford to celebrate too long, though, with a tough home matchup against Bridgman next week.

Gobles, who entered the week ranked fourth in the state, have a real chance to replace Martin as No. 1.
