Farwell Eagle Football looks to end 2017 aim high for 2018

2017 is not the year of the Eagle.

However for Farwell despite a number of injuries to key seniors that were expected to start and contribute this season the team has had moments of great play and other times of not so good play.

"With all the injuries we've endured this season it's been hard to find our mojo as a team." says Coach Ben Bryant.

"We've had games where we'll start out great. We were up 14-13 last Friday on Beaverton before falling apart but that shows the kind of team we can be."

Although the team has had a lot of injuries to key players there have been some other players that have jumped up and filled in well for the Eagles as Jacob Swarthout and Jay Thrush have had excellent junior campaigns and look to be huge pieces to the team going into their senior seniors in 2018 along with sophomore Johnny Cogswell who has had to step up with senior Hunter Turner going down with a neck injury in the first game forcing him to miss some games.

With the season drawing to an ending with the team just having two games left both at home against Houghton Lake and Roscommon Coach Bryant wants his team to play more consistently for four quarters which he thinks they have been building up towards doing throughout this season.

"Apart from the injuries we've had this season we've really tried going hard as possible on every play something I think that is starting to stick with them."

When asked about what the team will do in the offseason to improve their skills Bryant was thrilled to answer

"Wehave a great offseason workout program here at Farwell. As soon as this seasons over we'll be in the weight room Monday getting bigger and better for next year."

Coach Bryant also expects some players to do some camps on their own.

"We have guys go down to the Legacy Camp down in Brighton to showcase their skills and get better playing against guys all around the state."

The team will lose ten players after this season to graduation but with the underclassman playing a big role due to injury of some players Coach Bryant remains optimistic about next year.

"We're losing one guy on our line and that's something I'm very happy about."

Although the team has struggled this season it can't be all blamed on the Eagles

"We play in a very tough conference, Clare is always a very very tough team, Beaverton is undefeated right now and very good. Houghton Lake and Harrison are no slouches either."

The Farwell coach isn't making excuses though

"These teams aren't going away though, we're going to have to get better to beat them and that's our biggest goal."

The Eagles 0-7 (0-5) take on Houghton Lake this Friday (10-14-17) at home and finish the regular season at home against Roscommon at home.
