Detroit Catholic Central sends Underwood, Belleville packing (Full Story)
The Shamrocks flexed their muscle at home Friday cruising to a 35-21 win against Belleville and the nation’s top-ranked senior Bryce Underwood (LSU commit).
Detroit CC (12-0) struck first with a 49-yard rushing touchdown by Jaden Pydyn (Army commit), electrifying a massive crowd that reportedly had people walking miles to the stadium after finally parking.
Belleville (10-2) didn’t waste much time answering, tying the game 7-7 with two minutes left in the first quarter.
In what appeared to be a shootout early, the Shamrocks made the next move with Samson Gash gashing the Belleville defense to take a 14-7 lead early in the second quarter.
Flexing their muscles in the trenches, Pydyn added a second rushing touchdown with four minutes left until halftime, this time taking a fourth and goal into the end zone for a 21-7 lead.
Belleville led a charge just before the break, ending in an Underwood rushing touchdown to get within seven entering the break at 21-14.
Detroit CC came out firing in the third quarter, as Skylar Hunter connected with Pydyn on a flea flicker to take a 28-14 lead.
Belleville remained held in check throughout the fourth quarter, opening the door for the Shamrocks to break the game open.
And they did just that, as Hunter connected with Casmer Moir to give the Shamrocks a 35-14 lead with three minutes left in the third quarter.
Just like they did to end the second quarter, Belleville added a late touchdown to end the third, and get back into the game, trailing 35-21 entering the fourth quarter.
A Belleville fumble and interception sealed the deal for Detroit CC, who clinched the 35-21 regional final victory.
