Cranbrook grounded by Detroit Loyola 26-13 in season opener.

The Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Cranes were defeated by the Detroit Loyola Bulldogs 26-13 in the Cranbrook 2020 season opener on Saturday. This was the first loss by Cranbrook on opening day since 2010.

Cranbrook junior QB Shane Wittenberg went 10 for 21 with 1 TD, a 42-yard TD strike to sophomore WR Alex Yolles.

Senior DE Bryce Hall led the Cranes defense with 10 tackles, 2 TFL’s and 1 fumble recovery. Senior LB Drew Lauer recovered a fumble in the end zone for Cranbrook’s first points of the season.

Senior K/P Chase Paulus averaged 42 yards punting for the game.

Cranbrook moves on to face Macomb Lutheran North in a CHSL crossover game on the road next week.

Cranbrook will earn a berth to the MHSAA playoffs by playing out its remaining schedule.

“We are focused on playing one game at a time, helping our team to grow while remaining healthy”, said Cranbrook Head Coach Stephen Graf.

Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m.at home next Friday.
