Clare routs Houghton Lake in final regular season game of the season
Clare got going early on Thursday in their final test before taking on the district tournament next week in a 81-56 Jack Pine Conference win at Houghton Lake.
The Pioneers were jump started by speedy Junior Brendan Sersaw who scored 11 first quarter points to give Clare a comfortable 32-10 lead after the first quarter.
The second quarter the Pioneers continued to dominate as Houghton Lake continued to struggle with the pressure. Sersaw added another 11 points in the quarter to push the lead to 56-21 at the half.
“It was a team effort, I trust my teammates and shots were just falling for me tonight,” Sersaw said.
Most of the third and all of the fourth quarter Sersaw and other starters for Clare took a seat with a comfortable lead and let some role players get valuable minutes.
Clare was led by Sersaw with 22 points, Kaden Kelly with 14 and Nick Roe with 13. Houghton Lake led all scorers with 27 points in the loss for the Bobcats
Clare ends the season 17-3 and 11-3 in the Jack Pine good enough for second in the league behind Sanford-Meridian they take on Shepherd on Monday in districts. Houghton Lake wraps up their regular season 10-9 and 8-6 in conference which finished them fourth. They take on rival Roscommon on Wednesday for their district matchup at Roscommon.
