Central downs Northern in cross-town Portage rivalry (Story)

Elite defense helped Portage Central capture a 23-6 win over Portage Northern.

The Mustangs (5-2, 3-0 SMAC-W) earned their fifth straight victory Friday night after opening the fall with two straight losses.

In the midst of a tight game, Central kicker Sean Meyers connected on an impressive 51-yard field goal to help the Mustangs take a 10-6 lead.

Central never looked back, stifling Northern on offense while scoring 16 unanswered points to end the game.

The Mustangs will have a massive matchup October 25 against St. Joe for the conference crown.
