Cedar Springs slays another beast, this week it's #13 East Grand Rapids
Sleeping on Cedar Springs this year has proven to receive a rude awakening as the Red Hawks knocked out a top 20 team twice this year.
Cedar Springs beat Lowell when they were in the top 20 earlier this year and now #13 EGR.
Cedar Springs came out of the gate quick scoring a TD in the first two minutes to go up 8-0 early. The Redhawks D comes up big recovering fumble on the Pioneers 3rd offensive play and again scores to go up 14-0. Cedar Springs established ground game early and often, but EGR responded by putting up 12 points, but CS lead after one, 27-12.
In the second quarter, EGR put together a long drive and brought the score to 27-20. Both score on longer drives to make it 33-28 at half in favor of the RedHawks.
The second half was taken over by the defenses. EGR marches down the field with a nearly 4 and a half minute drive to take the lead 34-33 lead. Cedar Springs responds with their own 5 minute drive to score their only TD of the second half to take a 41-34 lead. Pioneers come back though and score on a blown coverage on 4th & 8 for a passing TD, but, 2 point conversion was no good, 41-40 CS leads.
The Redhawks consistently pressured the quarterback and contained the running game, only being beat deep over the top. They contained the Pioneer offense and forced them in to a do or die, game on the line 4th and 13. With the season on the line, EGR threw an incomplete pass. Penalty was called, but was an unsportsmanlike conduct on EGR. CD takes over on downs with 1 second left, takes a knee, and takes the W for Redhawks. 41-10 Redhawks advance to district final.
Cedar Springs will travel to DeWitt who surprisingly crushed GR Christian on Friday night.
