The Technicians punched their ticket into the state football semifinals Friday with a 21-14 victory over Macomb Dakota.

All the scoring came late in this game. Both teams had field goal attempts blocked early, keeping the game scoreless after the first quarter.

Neither team found the scoreboard in the second quarter, either, making it a 0-0 game heading into halftime.

Cass Tech struck first in the third quarter, taking a 7-0 lead that must have felt huge in such a low-scoring game.

Macomb Dakota answered in the fourth quarter with nine minutes left remaining, tying it up at 7-7 in crunch time.

Cass Tech scored again in the fourth to take a 14-7 lead. All the sudden points were arriving fast and furious after a snail-paced start to the game.

Dakota again tied the game late in the fourth, making overtime look like a real possibility. But Cass Tech had other plans.

The Technicians' star quarterback and Colorado commit Alex Graham was flanked out wide with just seconds left when he hauled in a long receiving touchdown with just 19 ticks left on the clock.

That was enough for Cass Tech to earn the win and return to the semifinals only a year removed from their last trip in 2022.
