Byron Center cemented its special season with a 17-14 victory over powerhouse and defending state champions Muskegon.
The Bulldogs opened the game with a five-yard touchdown run from Landon Tungate, powering through a packed defensive line for the score.
Muskegon tied the game in the second quarter when QB James Young connected with Danelle Lawrence for a nine-yard strike.
The Bulldogs kicked a 29-yard field goal to take a 10-7 lead into halftime, both teams proving tough to score on in a physical fight.
Muskegon opened the second-half scoring with a 43-yard James Young strike to Michael Piggee, giving the Big Reds a 14-10 lead.
With under six minutes left in the game, Tungate powered in a four-yard score to give the Bulldogs a decisive 17-14 lead.
Byron Center made a stop and then iced the game. The Bulldogs had not played Muskegon since 2017, when they lost 63-14.
Byron Center (7-1) will finish the season against Morris (IL). Muskegon (3-4) still needs to round out its schedule as the season reaches its final weeks.
