Byron Center football proved they could be a dangerous threat this postseason Friday night with a 38-17 pre-district win over Grand Rapids Northview.

The Bulldogs were first on the board with a 25-yard field goal with five minutes left in the first quarter.

Northview tied the game at 3-3 early in the second quarter, as things proved slow moving early in the game. The two offenses were still figuring things out, but Byron Center didn’t need long.

After being stopped on fourth down, Byron Center regained possession late in the second quarter, ultimately scoring the game’s first touchdown, just before the half, when Will Lake caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from Landon Tungate.

Tungate rushed for a one-yard score early in the second half to take a 17-3 lead. Just three minutes later, the Bulldogs added a 36-yard touchdown run to suddenly take a 24-3 lead.

Midway through the third quarter, Byron Center poured it on with a 25-yard strike from Tungate to Isaac Lee. In a blink of an eye, the Bulldogs scored 28 unanswered points.

With just over a minute left in the third quarter, Northview converted a fourth and short and plundered into the end zone to make it 31-10.

Both teams added a touchdown in the fourth quarter, with the Bulldogs proving they could be a team to watch out for as the playoffs progress.
