› Mount Pleasant Oilers at Petoskey Northmen

Mount Pleasant

Recap
On a cool, rainy night at the stunning Northmen Stadium in Petoskey the Mt Pleasant Oilers took an early lead and then relied on a rock solid defense to secure a hard fought 13-0 opening game victory. Senior QB Jackson Ostrowsky found Junior & brother Joseph Ostrowsky 3 times for big plays including a 35-yard scoring strike (est). (Jackson) Ostrowsky scored the Oilers other TD late in the 1st H on a 1-yard QB sneak. Mt Pleasant running back Zachary Mogg also had a strong game. On the defensive side for the Oilers, 6’ 3” 250 DE Tyler Huenemann dominated the line of scrimmage and was a big part of the reason Petoskey did not earn its first 1st down until midway through the 3rd Q. There were not many highlights for Petoskey but overall their defense was solid. Senior LB Janssen Byers was impressive returning from a knee injury that kept him out last season, he recorded 10 tackles & had 1 sack. Junior Gabe Whitmore lived up to his billing at free safety with multiple big hits and a potential game changing interception early in the 3rd Q, the defensive line led by senior Steven Hansen played physically. Highly touted kicker (ranked 48th nationally) Kaleb Kindsvatter never got an opportunity to show off his placekicking leg but did punt extremely well. Mt Pleasant is home next vs Kenowa Hills on Aug 30 while the Northmen travel to D4 powerhouse Escanaba on Aug 31.
